The PMC 6 active studio monitor reveals the truth about your recordings, delivering unwavering accuracy session after session. Designed for high-quality near-field monitoring in small to medium-sized rooms, the PMC 6 is a 2-way design with unique drivers - a 150mm woofer and a 27mm soft dome tweeter - mounted in the acclaimed ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) of the company. ATL is PMC's exclusive bass loading technology that extends low-frequency response, reducing distortion, improving phase and frequency linearity, and optimizing SPL capability. Equipped with state-of-the-art custom Class D amplifiers and sophisticated acoustic engineering, the PMC 6 delivers a spacious sound field with impressive depth, clarity, imaging and impact. Your monitors are the key to great-sounding recordings. Raise your level of precision with PMC.
The PMC 6 features a newly designed 150mm bass driver that works in conjunction with ATL technology to deliver significantly improved bass response over the previous model and rivaling PMC monitors equipped with 8-inch woofers. The tweeter used in the PMC 6 is a custom version of an HF driver manufactured by SB Acoustics, a company renowned for its high-quality drivers. Together, these advanced drivers represent a new level of accuracy and transparency for PMC, whose displays have been essential components of world-class control rooms for decades.
The PMC 6 is bi-amplified by an ICEPower 2 x 200W amplifier, with power delivered to the drive units via a unique adaptive crossover that detects whether the speaker system is oriented vertically or horizontally and optimizes accordingly. . For configuration flexibility, the XLR input can be switched between analog and AES digital. A partnership with iconic high-end consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen, ICEPower was founded in 1999 at a time when Class D amplification, which had existed since the 1950s, had matured and was beginning to be utilized. in professional audio applications such as active monitor speakers, where high power, light weight and low temperature operation were desirable. ICEPower's close association with B&O has allowed access to the resources, technical knowledge, quality control processes and commercial experience of a well-established company, and today, the company's advanced amplification modules are found in world-class products in the professional audio, consumer electronics and automotive.
Since the first professional studio monitor design was adopted by the music, broadcast and post-production industries in the early 1990s, PMC has become famous for its proprietary Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology. A transmission line is a method of loading a low-frequency speaker into a cabinet so that unwanted frequencies radiating from the back of the driver are absorbed, allowing only the lower frequencies to pass through. These frequencies emerge from a front cabinet output, which effectively acts as an auxiliary low-frequency driver, extending bass response while absorbing unwanted low frequencies that contribute to harmonic distortion, detracting from the upper bass and midrange. One of the keys to the natural, highly detailed sound of PMC speakers, ATL technology delivers deeper bass and greater output in smaller cabinets, delivering rich, full sound at any listening level. And because the ATL's bass extension doesn't vary with volume levels, bass reproduction is well-defined and always balanced, even at low volumes.
There is no substitute for mid-range clarity in a monitor. This is the essence of your mix, and it remains relevant regardless of the playback system. That's why you can spend hours struggling to achieve a perfect balance and only end up with frustration, listening fatigue, and a mix that doesn't "translate." In addition to improving bass response, PMC's ATL technology also mitigates problematic frequencies and eliminates port noise that can mask the midrange in other types of monitor speaker designs. As a result, you'll find it easier to position, for example, vocals and solo instruments in a mix, allowing you to achieve an ideal balance that translates to the world outside your studio.
