On its own, the PMC 8-2 Midfield Monitor delivers impressive performance, making it an excellent primary monitor for mobile recording trucks and other applications where space is limited but monitoring accuracy is essential.

For larger rooms, we recommend adding a pair of PMC 8-2 SUB active subwoofers to form a seamlessly integrated XBD system.

Available in left and right (mirrored) versions, the PMC 8-2 SUB is equipped with two of the same 200 mm LF drivers as the PMC 8-2, and its audio input passes through the same filters as the PMC 8-2 woofers, doubling the bass frequency content and allowing the system to achieve a higher maximum SPL.

Since the PMC 8-2 already achieves a full range of low frequencies, it would not benefit from a conventional subwoofer.

However, the PMC 8-2 SUB can also be used as a conventional subwoofer, boosting low frequency extension when used with smaller monitors such as the PMC 6.2, or reproducing the LFE channel of a surround sound setup.

NOTE: These subwoofers are designed to be used in pairs. The main difference is in the installation position and stereo configuration, where the right subwoofer is used to reproduce the bass sounds from the right channel of the audio system, while the left subwoofer reproduces the bass sounds from the left channel. This balanced stereo configuration provides an immersive and accurate listening experience, especially in stereo or multi-channel audio productions.

Optimized electronics, formidable power

The PMC 8-2 SUB is amplified by a next-generation 2-channel ICEPower amplifier that delivers 400 watts to each of the two drivers. For configuration flexibility, the XLR input can be switched between analog and AES digital.

ICEPower is a joint venture with iconic high-end consumer electronics company Bang & Olufsen, founded in 1999 at a time when Class D amplification, which has been around since the 1950s, had matured and was beginning to be used in professional audio applications such as active monitoring speakers, where high power, light weight and low temperature operation were desirable.

ICEPower's close association with B&O gave them access to the resources, technical expertise, quality control processes and business skills of a well-established company. Today, the company's advanced amplification modules are found in world-class products in the professional audio, consumer electronics and automotive industries.

Proprietary Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology:

Delivers deeper bass and greater output in smaller cabinets, delivering rich, full sound at any listening level. And because the ATL's bass extension doesn't vary with volume levels, low frequencies are well-defined and always balanced, even when listening at low volume.

Mitigates problematic frequencies and eliminates duct noise that can mask the midrange in other types of monitor speaker designs. As a result, you'll find it easier to position, for example, vocals and solo instruments in a mix, allowing you to achieve an ideal balance that translates to the world outside your studio.
