Good phase relationships are essential for great sound mixing. When tracks are summed on a stereo mix buss, the instruments tend to overlap and interact with each other in frequency range and phase position. A bass track may be temporarily out of phase with the kick tracks; when added together, the two instruments cancel each other out in the overlapping frequency range, causing a temporary “hole” in the low-end. Likewise, a snare track can end up sounding thin in a mix when the resonance of the tones is out of phase with the snare.
Designed to enhance any mix, PI dynamically rotates the phase of individual mixer channels to achieve maximum phase correlation within the mix.
