Propellerhead 's Radical Keys is a rack extension for Reason designed to be a simple, straightforward, and professional-sounding virtual electric piano.

Radical Keys combines sample playback with cutting-edge physical modeling to generate realistic sound quality and seamless dynamic response with the freedom to adjust sounds in any direction.

Radical Keys brings you three classic keyboard instruments in one great-sounding package: the Rhodes Mk1, the Wurlitzer, and the Pianet-T. All delivered through Propellerhead's Radical Engine, combining samples with physical modeling to bring out the character and quirks of these legendary instruments.

Electric Pianos

  • Rhodes : This is a Rhodes Mk I Seventy-Three. The Rhodes uses steel tines in combination with electromagnetic pickups to generate its sound. The tines and pickups can be mechanically adjusted to obtain different sound characteristics. This particular Rhodes has been tuned for an “old school” sound with that beautiful “bark” effect when played at high speeds. Rhodes' sound generally blends very well with other instruments in the mix

  • Wurlitzer : The famous Wurlitzer 200A has a brighter, “hollower” sound than the Rhodes, especially when played at high speeds. This makes the Wurly often stand out in the mix. The Wurlitzer uses steel reeds along with electrostatic pickups to generate its sound.

  • Pianet : This is a Hohner Pianet T. The Pianet T uses steel reeds in combination with electromagnetic pickups. Instead of hitting the reeds, the reeds are activated by sticky silicone rubber activation pads that are pulled from the reeds, causing them to vibrate. The same activation pads act as shock absorbers when the keys are released. The Pianet T has no active electronic components, so the output signal must be amplified, for example, by a guitar amplifier.
