Manley's modern version of the Pultec equalizer - in stereo! - with extra frequencies that the original never had; a far superior power supply and the famous Manley amplifiers complete the package. Magic on the drums, killer on the guitars.
The MANLEY ENHANCED PULTEC EQP-1A is our own interpretation of the historic Pultec Equalizer originally produced by Pulse Techniques, Inc. We have been building these Manley Pultec EQs since 1990, after we bothered to hunt down Eugene Shenk in New Jersey to ask for his permission and blessings. to produce our own version of his classic piece. These Manley Pultec units employ our own simple and clean all-tube composite gain block to re-amplify the signal after the passive equalization circuit. The EQ can be set to 'flat' positions or fully BYPASSED. All BOOST and CUT controls are continuously variable conductive plastic potentiometers for absolutely silent operation and long service life. Our single rack unit monoblocks take up a third of the space of 'old Pultecs', an important consideration for allocating external rack space. And if you notice, we added some extra frequencies as well. The rear-mounted input switch selects 0 degrees or 180 degrees PHASE INVERT for the balanced gold-pin XLR input, or the transformerless unbalanced bridge input (1/4" jack) can be selected in the middle position of this switch.
People often ask us if our Pultec equalizers sound like the old ones, to which we respond, "Yes! But better!" The originals had three transformers in the signal path, while ours can be used completely without a transformer. Our Manley Enhanced Pultec has a far superior B+ power supply with regulated and balanced heater supply. Our line amplifier is known for having a killer sound. The components we use today simply weren't available in the 1960s. So if you want a design with crackling carbon pots, dirty open-frame wafer switches, noisy carbon resistors at 5% and 10% tolerances, exposed tubes sticking out from the back of the 3U chassis, etc., pay a lot for an old Pultec!
The MANLEY PULTEC EQP-1A, available in single- and 2-channel versions, uses 1 x 12AX7WA and 1 x 6414 (or 5965) in our single-ended ALL-TUBE line amplifier for extra punchy gain and sound; gain is factory set to unity, but additional gain is available via a rear-mounted feedback adjustment trimpot. Like our 40dB mic preamps, Manley Pultecs offer transformer-coupled unbalanced and direct capacitor-coupled unbalanced outputs for easy interfacing and sonic variety. Bass drum? Bring the Pultecs and all the iron you can muster! You'll soon discover the power and magic of having these individual low-frequency BOOST and CUT controls on that LF shelf circuit. . . Need a little clarity or extension? Experience the bell-shaped center boost in boost clarity on the BANDWIDTH control. Is something bothering you? Make it easier with cutting the HF shelf. You will see. There is no substitute for what a Manley Pultec equalizer can do!

Operating Mains Voltage: Units are built specifically for the mains voltage of the original destination country: 100V, 120V or 220-240VAC as indicated on the serial number badge. The power transformer must be replaced to change the operating voltage of the electrical network. 120VAC units cannot be rewired to place the power transformer primaries in series for 220-240V operation or a large humming radiated field will develop. In case of changing locations/voltages, the power transformer must be replaced with one dedicated to the voltage at which it will operate.
