Warm up your sound | Tape recordings have a musical quality that digital mixes often lack. TAIP brings this quality to your DAW.

It will add some authentic analog warmth to your tracks without needing to route any audio out.

Ribbon plugins are not a new concept. However, our emulation method is. Instead of using traditional DSP, we built TAIP around an AI algorithm designed to decipher the invisible nuances of analog circuits.

The result is a truly faithful tape emulation that is intuitive and creative in use – with some additional features to accommodate a modern workflow. Use TAIP to add a touch of warmth and glue to your tracks, or 'drive like you hate it' as an alternative to your distortion plug-ins.

MAIN FEATURES

  • Use TAIP to add musical saturation and paste drums, instruments, vocals and more
  • Tape Machine ideal for the DAW era
  • Its parameters allow you to customize the right tape type for any need
  • 135 presets from famous Producers like Mark Needham, Eestbound, Rob Kleiner and more
  • Worn by Max Jaeger – Producer/Mixer for Diplo, Kane West, Ariana Grande

HIGHLIGHTS

AI-powered algorithm giving you true analog tape warmth and behavior.

Flexible feature set, allowing you to create a custom 'tape type' for any need.

Use TAIP to add musical saturation and paste drums, instruments, vocals and more.

Resources

TAIP is our attempt to create the ideal 'tape machine' for the DAW era, combining authentic vintage sound with a modern feature set. Its parameters allow you to customize the right type of tape for any need.

  • DRIVE: Traditionally, tape machines were designed to color the sound as little as possible. TAIP is not. You can use the DRIVE button to add as much color as you need – from a subtle touch of warmth to heavy distortion.
  • MIX/TAPE FLANGING : MIX allows you to run your tape in parallel. You can combine MIX and WEAR to get a classic ' ribbon flanger' effect. This is caused by the wow and vibration of the WEAR running parallel to the dry track.
  • MODEL: Although SINGLE is a normal tape emulation, DUAL creates a series of two chained tape emulations under the hood, each applying half the DRIVE value. This will add a little more weight to your signal.
  • LO-SHAPE/HI-SHAPE : These sliders allow you to saturate the low/high end more or less than the rest of the frequency spectrum. (Example: heating a drum bus without distorting low frequencies).
  • GLUE: Tape machines are known to have an effect similar to compression due to their low dynamic range. TAIP allows you to add this effect – or even exaggerate it. Use glue for subtle cohesion or as a compressor.
  • NOISE : Allows you to add tape noise to your liking – or avoid it completely.
  • PRESENCE : Some of the tape's warmth comes from attenuated highs. PRESENCE lets you decide how much of this attenuation you want. It can bring back the shine that is sometimes lost on tape.
  • WEAR : Combines wow, flutter, and an altered frequency response curve to emulate a worn recorder.
  • INPUT: Choose between NORMAL or HOT (more distorted) input levels without affecting output volume.
  • AUTOMATIC GAIN : Allows you to add more DRIVE while maintaining a consistent plugin output level.

Putting the 'AI' in TAIP.

'AI' is an overused – and often misused – term. But we believe it's the future of music technology. It just needs to be used genuinely and for a legitimate purpose.

For a hardware emulation project like TAIP , AI offers an alternative – and in our opinion more faithful – approach to the traditional DSP method. Where a normal DSP emulation would entail 'guessing' the effect of various analogue components and their mutual dependencies, we can use neural networks/AI to precisely decipher the sonic qualities that make a recorder sound and behave the way it does. This happens by feeding an algorithm various dry vs. dry audio training data. processed audio and teaching you to identify the exact characteristics that make the difference. Once these differences are learned by the AI, we can apply them to the new audio.

This process can sound excessively digital for a plugin that features an analog sound. But the reality is that 'analog' and 'digital' are two fundamentally different domains. To make a computer behave (or sound!) a certain way, it helps to think like it. Recreating an 'analog style' signal path in DSP is thinking about the problem like a human being. The AI approach helps us solve the problem like a machine would – for more faithful emulation.
